NBA News & Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers begins a good start in 2016-17 season with a new roster

Cleveland Cavaliers begins a good start in the news season with their new roster. Previously, they Cavaliers decided to waive shooting guard Dahntay Jones and keeping DeAndre Liggins as backup point guard.

The 35-year old veteran Jones is waived for Liggins who has the ability to play in both point guard and shooting guard position. Moreover, Liggins is also a two-time Defensive Player of the Year in the D-League and a good defensive stopper as reported by CBS Sports . Liggins defensive trait making the Cavaliers become lesse reliance on LeBron James in their defensive end.

During the preseason games, Jones played an average 20.4 minutes, but he only made 4.5 points and 1.0 assists per game. While Liggins who played 20.7 minutes made 5.7 points, 3.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. Liggins showed his ability to be an all-around player.

Head coach Tyron Lue is very intrigued with Liggins as reported by Cleveland.com  after he signed the partially guaranteed contract on Sept. 26 to join the Cavaliers training camp. His attitude and defensive ability impressed the coaching staff.
"He has been great," Coach Lue said at the season. "He's very intriguing because he can play 1 and 2 and he's a great defender. He can defend 1s, 2s and some 3s."

Prior to waive Jones, Cavaliers have already waived guard John Holland after a month. Holland played in the three preseason games and averaging 10.7 points and 1.3 steals in 18.8 minutes.

Cavaliers enter the regular season as a defending champion after defeating Golden State Warriors 4-3 in the 2016 NBA Finals. The Cavs became the first team in the NBA history that can win the series after a 3-1 deficit. The 2016 championship is the first time for the Cleveland Cavaliers after their 46 years in the league.

With DeAndre Liggins takes the final spot of the roster, Cleveland Cavaliers start the 2016-17 regular season with the good start. They defeated New York Knicks in the season opener on Oct. 25 117-88 in their home court Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland, Ohio.
