Following speculation about iPad Air 3, Apple has not made any announcement about the latest version of iPad Air product line. Rumors are circulated that the third version of iPad Air will be out in March 2017 with the latest A10 chipset, similar to that of the iPhone.

However, according to Apple Insider, Apple shifts its focus to iPad Pro. Apple was reported to prepare three new lines of iPad Pro for spring 2017. They are the 7.9-inch model, the traditional 9.7-inch and the large 12.9-inch model. All iPad Pro models will be equipped with quad-speaker audio, True Tone Display that support DCI-P3 Wide Color and a 12-megapixel camera at the rear.

The three models also have distinctive feature in their display. They will have an advanced four-channel ambient light sensors, which automatically adapt the display's color and intensity to match the light in surrounding environment.

It is likely Apple still observe the market and the company plan to change its target market for iPad product line. According to Mashable, there have been a significant changes in the market segment of iPad. In respond to that, Apple decided to shift the target market for iPad to professional users, hence the name 'iPad Pro.'

Nevertheles, there is still no official update from Cupertino about the iPad Air 3, which the rumor of its existence began circulating in September. Apple strictly follows its habit, decline to make any official comment on rumors about its product outside its designated company events.

Since its first model, iPad Air was exactly the same with its iPad Mini product, with the only difference in slimmer line. The first iPad Air was released in 2013, followed by iPad Air 2 in the following year. It might be a good business plan for Apple to integrate its iPad product lines into one 'iPad Pro' and discard the unnecessary product items.
