EXO's Lay has unlocked yet another milestone for his acting career after his Chinese drama "Old Nine Gates" surpassed the 10 billion views mark on a Chinese online video platform.
Since it started airing in July on iQiyi, "Old Nine Gates" has been viewed 10,008,000,000 times, making it Lay's second Chinese drama to reach the same milestone. The first one was "To Be A Better Man," where the EXO member made a special appearance, Allkpop reported.
"Old Nine Gates" is a prequel of a Chinese series titled "The Lost Tomb." The Chinese drama was well-received by the Chinese viewers bringing it to top in terms of television ratings. Aside from that, it also holds the record for most viewed drama within a day.
Prior to his appearances in Chinese dramas, the multitalented EXO member has also done a couple of movies including "Ex-Files 2: The Backup Strikes Back" and "Go Fighting The Movie: Royal Treasure." Aside from that, Lay is also set to star in "Unexpected Love" and "Kung Fu Yoga."
A Chinese media source revealed followers of "Old Nine Gates" were impressed of how the EXO member can shift from one emotion to another, as per Soompi. The agency noted Chinese viewers were captured when Lay had an emotional scene where he dreamt of being reunited with his wife in the drama.
Meanwhile, the EXO member will soon release a new song under his upcoming solo album. According to his studio, the new track is titled "what U need" and will be released to celebrate Lay's birthday on Oct. 7.
The studio added the new track will serve as Lay's gift to all his fans who have been waiting for his solo debut. Prior to the announcement, the studio also dropped a snippet of Lay's preparation for his new release.
