Microsoft also unveiled a virtual reality gaming head set titled the HoloLens, a tablet titled the Surface Pro 4 and a phone titled the Lumia 950.

Microsoft Surface Book 2, otherwise known as the follow-up device to last year's "ultimate laptop" created by Microsoft is being eyed to get released in the spring of 2017.

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is yet to hold another press event in October at New York, but it will not include the launch of the Microsoft Surface Book 2. To this end, it is being predicted that the successor of the device will be unveiled sometime in 2017, alongside other products such as the Surface All-in-One and the Surface Phone.

Previously, a rumored leaked photo of the Microsoft Surface 2 has been released by the company's Instagram account. The image, which appeared to have been redesigned with fewer ridges, has been reported as the first ever sneak peek into the device. However, it was later discovered via Twitter that the image was in fact, a promo image of the original Surface book.

"Hey @verge and @windowscentral, sorry but it's a promo image of the original Surface book... ;)," Twitter user Rudy Huyn said in a post.

The original Microsoft Surface was launched in October 2015, an event which marked one of the company's successful product unveiling. Dubbed as the "ultimate laptop" by the tech company, the device comes in a 2-in-1 hybrid of a tablet and a laptop with a 13.5 inch PixelSense display. Its operating system, Windows 10 is packed with 8GB- 16GB of memory and a 6th Gen Intel Core processor.

The device received generally positive reviews from critics and consumers, having seen it as a tough competitor to Apple's line of Mac books. However, the "gap" seen on the device when closed is one feature they wish to get tweaked in the Microsoft Surface Book 2. This is one of the key contents expected to be addressed when Microsoft finally unveils the latest version.
