"Dark Souls 3" will see its release of "Ashes of Ariandel," the first of two planned downloadable content, thanks to From Software and Bandai Namco. However, during its 2015 announcement at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the press release kept reiterating that this is the "final episode," which would probably indicate the end of the "Dark Souls" series.

In an interview with Polygon at Tokyo Game Show (TGS), From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that the two DLC packs will conclude the series as a whole. He mentioned that the company will move forward from the "Dark Souls" series, albeit not rejecting the idea of bringing it back some day. He would be open to the possibility of someone working on continuing the series, but, as of now, "the series will end after the two DLC."

Miyazaki even suggested that the series might return, though only through HD remasters of the older games. Although, it isn't clear whether they would go for a simple port to the new consoles or go for a full remake that includes new features.

The company's president reassured fans that he will not stop on working on a "Dark Souls"-like gameplay for any future projects. Along with the entire, Miyazaki aspires to learn from the series and see where they can apply them in future projects.

In other related news, the "Ashes of Ariandel" DLC will be released on Oct. 25. Express UK mentions that the game will let players travel to a new snowy location, fighting new enemies with a whole arsenal of new weapons and magic. Fans did take note of the similarities of "Ashes of Ariandel" and the first "Dark Souls" DLC, "The Painted World of Ariamis."

The next DLC will be released sometime early 2017, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
