"Agents of SHIELD" and "Doctor Strange" will stage a crossover episode in Season 4, executive producers Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen have confirmed.

"Agents of SHIELD" is no longer new to doing crossovers with other Marvel franchises. Recently, the series has already featured a few storylines which linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe - such as Hydra in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." In the case of "Doctor Strange," the showrunners said that the tie-in will not be shown explicitly to the audience.

"The tie this year will feel more of a reflection of the movie, less an interweaving plot," executive producer Jed Whedon told Entertainment Weekly.

"As that movie hits the world, it comes at the right time in our show, and you will see some of those same ideas being explored."

In addition to Doctor Strange, "Agents of SHIELD" will also feature the arrival of the Ghost Rider in Season 4. The iconic character will be played by Gabriel Luna and will first appear in the premiere aptly titled "The Ghost."

What's more, the team will also be moving forward with a new director. According to the official plot synopsis shared by The Futon Critic, the season opener will find Coulson taking on the role of an agent, while teaming up with Mack to take down the Inhumans. Elsewhere, May will get busy training strike teams; while Fitz and Simmons will take a huge step forward in their relationship.

"Agents of SHIELD" stars Clark Gregg, Ming Na Wen, Chle Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge and Henry Simmons. Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 10PM on ABC.
